Types of Socialization

Main socialization

Primary socialization occurs each time a child understands the behaviour, values, and actions appropriate to individuals as members of a particular tradition. For example if a child found his/her mom expressing a discriminatory opinion about a fraction group, after that that child may think this kind of behavior is appropriate and could always have this opinion about minority organizations. Secondary socialization

Supplementary socialization refers to the process of learning what is appropriate behavior as a part of a smaller sized group inside the larger world. It is usually associated with teenagers and adults, and involves more compact changes than patients occurring in primary socialization. eg. entering a new profession, relocating to a new environment or world. Developmental socialization

Developmental socialization is the process of learning behavior within a social company or developing your sociable skills. Anticipatory socialization

Anticipatory socialization refers to processes of socialization in which a person " rehearses" for upcoming positions, jobs, and social relationships. Resocialization

Resocialization refers to the process of discarding previous behavior habits and accepting new types as part of a transition in one's your life. This happens throughout the human being life cycle (Schaefer & Lamm, 1992: 113). Resocialization can be an strong experience, together with the individual encountering a sharp break with their earlier, and needing to learn and become exposed to radically different rules and beliefs. An example might be the experience of a man or woman leaving home to join the military, or possibly a religious convert internalizing the beliefs and rituals of your new faith. An extreme model would be the process by which a transsexual learns to function socially in a drastically altered male or female role. Sexuality socialization

Henslin (1999: 76) contends that " a crucial part of socialization is the learning of culturally defined male or female roles. "...
